This one is for the ladies for sure! 30 and up report to this post, immediately.  The ladies of Xscape and SWV went head to head for the latest Verzuz.  The Xscape vs SWV Verzuz puts two of the best R&B groups from the 90s together.

Xscape was founded back in 1992 with members, Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, LaTocha Scott, and Tamika Scott.  They linked up with Jermaine Dupri and his So So Def records at a time when girl’s groups were a major thing.  They came out as somewhat of a bad girls of R&B group and hit the ground running.

The group released their debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha, on October 12, 1993.  Off The Hook was released in 1995.  And in 1998 they released their magnum opus, Traces of My Lipstick.

Their hit singles over the years include, “Just Kickin’ It,” “Understanding,” “Am I Dreaming,” “Who Can I Run To?,” and “My Little Secret”.

Kandi Burress has also had a run as a solo artist, releasing a couple of bangers as an individual.

Kandi and Tiny are also bonafied songwriters.  Their biggest hit as songwriters is probably TLC’s “Scrubs”.

SWV of course stands for Sisters With Voices.  Initially formed as a gospel group, SWV came together in 1988 with members  Cheryl (Coko) Gamble, Tamara (Taj) Johnson and Leanne (Lelee) Lyons.

In 1992 they released their debut album, It’s About Time.  Four years later, in 1996 they released their follow-up, New Beginnings.  And one year later they released, their third project, Release Some Tension.  After a break-up, they came back together in the early 2010s to release I Missed Us in 2012.  In 2016 they released their latest project titled, Still.

Their hit singles include, “Weak”, “Right Here (Human Nature Remix)”, “I’m So into You”, and “You’re the One”.

Coko has released 4 solo albums of her own as well.  However, her biggest contribution to music as a solo artist was providing the chorus to Will Smith’s “Men In Black.”
