Lil Yachty For The Record Interview With Genius

Just earlier this month Lil Yachty released, Lil Boat 2, the follow up to his mixtape Lil Boat. This new project reaching number one on the Itunes chart. Ahead of those accomplishments, he may have a collaboration project with Gucci Mane on the way.

This is a great time for Lil Yachty as he starts a new chapter in his life.

The King of the Teens did a recent interview with Genius’s For The Record, a weekly internet show, to chat it up and talk about his new album. In this back and forth conversation with Rob Markman, Yachty talks about the return of his alter-ego Boat, what he had to do to get a 2 Chainz verse, and lets you know what’s “cappin”.

Here is 7 key points that we learn from the Lil Yachty For The Record Interview.

1. Lil Yachty speaks on his mother being an influence to this project

When the Markman asked Yachty about the first line on the song, Self-Made, Yachty went on to say, “ My mom’s very important to me.” He goes on to say, “These things matter to me. So, it was important that I talked about that.”

2. He speaks on how he notices the Haters and embraces them

Yachty observes what the reviews have to comment on him. He even states that he was excited on the release of his album that he just stayed up looking at reviews. He reads it all and respects it all.

3. Funk Flex finessed Yachty into doing a Funk Flex Freestyle

When Lil Yachty started making waves with his music he was receiving mad criticism from radio outlets in the NYC area because of his style of rap. Yachty burying the hatchet said he reached out to Funk Flex for an interview. Although he came to sit down and talk with Flex, of course it was only right for Flex to get a freestyle from the former XXL freshmen. He calls Funk Flex a good guy.

4.Lil Yachty had to wait until Quavo fell a sleep to get a verse from 2 Chainz

He tells the story that after a night of gambling and partying with strippers. In the hours between four and five a.m. when Quavo fell a sleep of good weed, he snuck over to 2 Chainz and asked for a verse. Yachty says getting a 2 Chainz verse was a goal of his and he couldn’t miss this opportunity.

5. Yachty explains why Lil Boat 2 was cut down to 17 tracks

According to Yachty, Lil Boat 2 was going to be a bit longer but shrunk it to 17. Songs that he was hoping to be bonus tracks were not added because he found out that bonus tracks are illegal.

6. Lil Yachty was playing NBA 2K while he did his verse for the song “She Ready”

While Lil Boat was in the studio with PnB Rock during the record session for the song She Ready it was some friendly competition going on the joystick. Unable to finish pause the game Lil Yachty took the controller with him into the booth to do his verse and beating whoever was the second controller.

7. Lil Yachty really enjoy genuine people

The amount of people called genuine in this interview is more than a handful. People such as Takeoff, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Tekashi69 and more get named as genuine people throughout this interview.
