Dr. Dre Gives Back To Compton High School

The Compton Unified School District recently announced that Hip-Hop Mogul, Dr. Dre, is committing $10 million to fund the construction of a performing arts center for the new Compton High School. He is also helping to raise additional funds that will go toward the completion of the center.

The ground on the new center is expected to break by 2020. The center will have state-of-the-art equipment and technology, including digital media production tools. There will also be a 1200 seat theater. The district plans for the center not only to be beneficial for the students, but to the entire Compton community as well.

Officials within the school district are excited about the partnership. They say that Dr. Dre has been an amazing support system for the community. And they appreciate all that he’s done for their students and the people of Compton.

Architecture firm, DLR Group, is in charge of designing the new campus and performing arts center. They plan on making it the most modern public high school. It will also become an important institution that will have a major effect on change in the community.And will have a direct impact on the success of Compton’s children

Dr Dre Gives Back
Compton has had a long history of setting trends in the music industry and athletics. The District hopes that the new campus will be a leading example in the standards of education as well. Especially, with the performing arts center that will also serve the community. The goal is to create a place that gives many various learning opportunities for students while creating an environment where they can be successful and more importantly want to thrive in.

Though, Dr. Dre is originally a resident of Compton he did not graduate from Compton High School or a high school within the Compton Unified School District. Instead, he attended Centennial High School in Compton for a year and finished the remainder of his education at  Fremont High School in South Central Los Angeles.
