Say Goodbye To Olivia Pope, Scandal Ending In 2018

It looks like we will only get to see Olivia Pope for one more season. TVLine just announced that the hit Shonda Rhimes show Scandal will be ending following its 7th season. ABC is expected to make an official announcement about Scandal ending next Tuesday. We’re already 2 episodes away from the season six finale.

“I feel like there is a finite amount of Scandal to be told,” Rhimes recently told NPR. “So I know what the end of Scandal will be, and I feel really good about that. And I can see where the end point is. And I don’t think I’m going to change that.”

Nellie Andreeva over at Deadline says the show might produce less than 22 episodes for its final season. Regardless, it’s come a long way from its humble beginnings. The show originally started as a 7-episode midseason replacement in the spring of 2012. It’s at least fitting that the show will receive a proper ending, rather than being abruptly cancelled with no warning.  It’s sad that to hear the news of Scandal ending, but it’s good that it doesn’t outrun its course.

“We have not really talked about what happens after that,” ABC president Channing Dungey told Variety. “But I love the show, and I would happily keep the show on as long as she feels that she has creative runway to write the show.”
