Kanye’s The Life of Pablo Becomes First Certified Platinum Streaming-Only Album

Kanye West is one of the worlds most watched, and talked about celebrities. Starting his journey in music as a producer, West transitioned to rapping back in 2003, before releasing 2004’s classic, The College Dropout.  Over the years he’s revealed more of his talents by adding on the roles of a fashion designer, entrepreneur, and of course, husband and father.  Over the course of his career Kanye has many accomplishments, and this week he added another, once again making history when his album, The Life of Pablo became the first certified platinum streaming-only album!

After 3 years of recording,  The Life of Pablo was released with GOOD Music and Def Jam Recordings on February 14, 2016. Initially it was a Tidal music exclusive, until he premiered it on the other streaming outlets. Upon it’s release The Life of Pablo became the first streaming-only album to reach the number one spot on the US album chart.  This is Kanye’s seventh album to date to reach the number one spot.

To date, The Life of Pablo has been streamed well over 3 billion times worldwide to make it the first certified platinum streaming-only album.  Over the course of 2016, just about every track off the Grammy nominated album hit the singles charts in the US and/or UK. Some of those tracks include the highest charting single “Famous” along with “Real Friends”, “No More Parties in LA” and “Ultralight Beam”.

Presented as a “living album” by KanyeThe Life of Pablo took on a life of its own as an evolving art project, with new updates, new versions, and new iterations of the album popping up for months after its release.

Kanye West is gearing up to release his next album, a G.O.O.D. Music compilation album called Cruel Winter, set to be released in May.  It’s set to feature many of the same producers who helped work on The Life of Pablo. There is no doubt that this album will be as equally great.
