Mary J Blige Takes Us Down Memory Lane With New Single, U + Me (Love Lesson)

The name Mary J. Blige is synonymous with Hip-Hop Soul. Starting in 1989, she has built a storied career, ripe with awards, accolades, and timeless hits. Gearing up for her 13th studio album, Strength Of A Woman, Mary has released a new single “U+Me (Love Lesson)”, an anthem for those who are currently dealing with the hardships of love.  The Mary J U+Me (Love Lesson) single successfully recaptures the signature MJB sound. It is a multi-layered tale, that whisks the listener down memory lane.

Smooth bass accompanies the track as Mary’s signature vocals glide effortlessly, while she tells an all-too-relatable story of a lovers regrets. The imperfect, problematic love that she sings about, channels classic, 90s Mary, and reinforces how some lessons are learned the hard way. With lines like: “Gotta keep on pushing and love myself through the hard times/Gotta keep my patience, still a long way to go now/ There’s so much to learn/When we trust the love that’s deep in us, then love will return.” Mary boldly declares her choice to break the cycle of unhealthy relationships. “Love Lessons” celebrates the beauty of learning from mistakes, and not letting those mistakes define you.
