Joe Thomas OUR ANTHEM rewrites the National Anthem to include the African American experience

R&B Veteran and 7x Grammy nominated recording artist, Joe Thomas has released an ode to African-Americans with his new song and visual, “OUR ANTHEM.”  Joe rewrites America’s national anthem to include the African-American experience and to spotlight the struggle of Blacks.

The song starts off like the original National Anthem, but takes a #BlackLivesMatter turn a few lines in.  There are elements of Otis Redding in the song as well, with calls for “tenderness.”

To end 2015, Joe gave a soul stirring tribute to Adele with his “Hello” tribute, but “Our Anthem” should spark discussions far beyond his vocal talent.  Names of tragic fallen angels, Sean Bell, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and LaQuan McDonald appear in the video with a backdrop of Martin Luther King, Jr.
