The Unit ain’t dead and neither is the West.  Why shouldn’t the two combine and drop a new album, amidst all the heat the team’s been putting in the streets recently.  This was the same exact idea that 40-Glocc conceived, and he eventually approached Spider Loc about recording a duo project.
The Graveyard Shift, featuring DJ Drama dropped March 29th, and in the middle of recording 900+ tracks for his new album, The Big Bad 4-0, 40-Glocc had been beating the NY streets as a one-man street-team.  Unfortunately Spider couldn’t make the rounds with him because of legal issues, but 40 still tossed Parlé some time at Black Star Music & Video in Harlem with the Cali native to discuss the project and more.
Parlé:  So tell me what’s going on with you right now, I know you’ve been going through a lot of legal battles and things like that but how’s your situation right now?
40-Glocc: Just working man, staying active, staying as active as I can, and pushing this album, out here on a little promo run, me and Spider Loc.  We just dropped an album called Graveyard Shift; it’s online and in stores everywhere.  We’re pushing that right now.  You know, I’m just staying working, working on my solo album and all that…
Parlé: Yeah and I see your footwork is a part of the work too, trotting through Harlem all the way from Cali…
40-Glocc: Riiiight, real talk! (Laughs).
Parlé:  So it’s been a lot of work so far I see.  And how about the production on the album?
40-Glocc: Mannn, you got Havoc, Blactoven, artists that participated were dudes like Noreaga, Busta Rhymes, MC Eiht, Kurupt, Jay-O Felony, man it’s a slew of artists; Kokane…everybody we worked wit on that muhfucker man!  I be forgetting sometimes, ‘cause I got this album, and then I’m working on my solo album…I’m just working on so much shit—
Parlé: So the features just get mixed up sometimes you think?
40-Glocc: Oh, when I’m in an interview??
Parlé: Yeah.
40-Glocc:  (Laughs) Yeah, accidently, sometimes I say the wrong shit…but yeah, all those guys right there, they’re on The Graveyard Shift album with me and Spider Loc.
Parlé: Cool, cool…So how did ya’ll get Drama to jump on the project?
40-Glocc: You know, being that I already know Drama, I just felt like since Drama do his Gangsta Grillz mixtapes, I wanted to do something different, get a DJ involved and have as an album, you know what I’m saying.  Like we don’t have him talking all through the songs and all that shit, but just the interludes and the skits, you know, just bringing some life to it.  To give you the feeling of, just popping that muhfucker in and you could just roll all the way through it, without skipping.  And It came out fire.  And since he does the Gangsta Grillz, why not, do it with some gangsters!  Now you got some gangsters and you got the Gangster Griller (Laughs).  And nigga we good!
Parlé: (Laughs) That’s what’s up!  And when ya’ll in the clubs and all that, ya’ll still intimidate people and stuff like that ‘cause of the background from Cali?  Or is it easing up a little bit?
40-Glocc:  Uhhhh, that, imagery just comes…It just comes with the territory, so, that aint something you can just “shake” like that, but it is what it is man, you know, we having fun, we making money, we chilling…you know what I mean.
Parlé: Yeah, and that’s just more of the bullshit nowadays right?
40-Glocc: Yeah, word.  I’ll only go into “Attack mode” if I feel have to, “ATTACK!” You know what I’m saying?
Parlé:  (Laughs)
40-Glocc:  You know, other than that, I’m cool!
Parlé: I can dig it man…So how about the challenges, and easy parts of making an album, with someone, opposed to laying it down yourself?  As you have been doing also with your album, The Big Bad 4-0 dropping this year right?
40-Glocc: Ahhh, um, as far as working on the album, when I say “working,” I mean the whole thing, from, putting it together, to pressing it, to promoting it, distributing it, all that stuff.  The easiest part I would say, is the music, making the music.  The hardest parts is like, say right now, with Spider going through legal issues, and I’m here and I have to speak for him.  Because of his legal issues, they wouldn’t allow him to be here.  He was originally coming and he couldn’t make it, ‘cause people was like ‘No, you can’t go,’ just out of the clear blue sky.
Parlé: And that’s really just stopping ya’ll bread…
40-Glocc: Right, and it kind of stops him as an artist too, like they’re dealing with his career so, just, the legal issues, shit like that, but, other than that, everything gravy.  If he can participate, he’ll participate, if he has to call in, he’ll call in. We just trying to make it happen the best way we can.
Parlé: Cool, cool, thanks a lot, I appreciate everything man.
40-Glocc: Already!
